NTP Courses Delivered to Pupils
Up to 31st August 2022, the Department for Education (DfE) estimates that 2,215,386 courses have been delivered to pupils through the National Tutoring Programme in the 2021 to 2022 academic year.
Up to 31st August 2022, DfE estimates that 2,526,103 courses have been delivered to pupils through the National Tutoring Programme, across the 2020 to 2021 academic year and the 2021 to 2022 academic year.
Not all courses delivered to pupils were 15 hours long. Individual pupils may undertake more than one course. Where a tutor delivered a course to multiple pupils, that course was counted once per pupil. See methodology for more details.
Schools Participation in NTP: 2021 to 2022 Academic Year
Up to 31st August 2022, DfE estimates that 87.4% of schools participated in the National Tutoring Programme in the 2021 to 2022 Academic year. Whilst all schools can access NTP funding through the tuition partners route, not all schools were eligible for school-led tutoring funding or an academic mentor.
Hours Delivered to Pupils on NTP: 2021 to 2022 Academic Year
Up to 31st August 2022, DfE estimates that 24,447,152 hours of tutoring have been delivered to pupils through the National Tutoring Programme in the 2021 to 2022 academic year. An hour of tutoring delivered on a course to multiple pupils is counted once for each pupil.
Characteristics of Pupils Receiving Tutoring on NTP: 2021 to 2022 Academic Year
This publication contains statistics on pupil characteristics broken down by each route. Aggregated totals across the programme are not provided because the AM data does not allow us to accurately identify the full population of individual pupils.
As of 18th May 2022, DfE estimates that, of the pupils who had received tuition on the single largest route in the 2021/22 academic year, school-led tutoring (which made up 81% of all courses delivered to pupils):
- 47.4% were known to be eligible for free school meals within the last 6 years.
- 24.5% were known to have special educational needs.
Comparisons Against Previous NTP Statistics
Comparisons against the previous NTP statistic release for the 2021 to 2022 academic year have not been included in this release because the underlying data for school-led tuition has changed from the Educational Settings Status Form to the Year End Statement and there have been small changes to how AM estimates have been produced too. Therefore, this release supersedes previous releases and comparisons against figures in the previous release should be treated with caution.
