  6. Achievement rates are calculated according to the Education & Training Qualification Achievement Rate business rules. These documents are available on the gov.uk website: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/qualification-achievement-rates-qar-2020-to-2021
  7. The overall achievement rate is based on the Hybrid End Year. The Hybrid End Year is the later of the Expected End Year, Actual End Year or Reporting Year of a qualification
  8. Achievement rates are based on the individual qualification aims that were completed in the relevant year (Hybrid End Year). They are calculated as the number of aims achieved divided by the number started, excluding the aims of any learners that transferred onto another qualification within the same institution
  9. Retention rates are based on the individual aims that were successfully completed in the relevant year (the Hybrid End Year). They are calculated as the number of learning aims completed divided by the number of leavers
  10. Pass rates are based on the individual aims that were successfully completed in the relevant year (the Hybrid End Year). They are calculated as the number of learning aims achieved divided by the number successfully completed
  11. Figures include all funded and unfunded aims reported on the ILR
  12. Level H includes qualifications at Level 4, Level 5 , Level 6 or Level 7

  1. From 2013/14 to 2015/16 loans were available for learners ages 24 or older studying full Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications. From 2016/17, Advanced Learner Loans were extended to learners aged 19 or older on the first day of their course and studying at Levels 3 to 6, and are not directly comparable to earlier years
  2. Applications received include processed and unprocessed applications but exclude those Cancelled, Deleted, In Data Entry and Ineligible (except where stated)
  3. Volumes are rounded to the nearest ten, except for the Total loan amount awarded, which are rounded to the nearest hundred. Figures may not sum due to rounding. '~' Indicates a base value of fewer than five for the cohort combination
  4. Applications closed on the following 31 July for each academic year respectively. Final application data is as at 30 September for each academic year (August to July).

  6. 2018/19 data for provider type 'Other public funded' has been revised slightly here to include around 30 applications (received/approved) which were previously included in the 'Private Sector public funded' category
  7. For 2019/20, the sector subject area unknowns are under review

It includes learners who don’t receive the direct funding, yet enrolled and meet the underlying criteria.
