Footnotes
Estimates regarding school participation and starts made on courses by pupils on school-led tuition and NTP in 2021/22 are based on the Educational Setting Status form survey. This survey is not completed by all schools. A 100% participation rate suggests that all responding schools are participating in school led tutoring or NTP, however, this is not necessarily the case for all non-responding schools. We assume that non-responding schools resemble responding schools and do not adjust for non-response bias. Because we have to infer what non-responding schools are doing from responding schools, estimates are uncertain. Local Authority estimates are often derived from small samples and should therefore be treated with caution, particularly when comparing against previous estimates. Please see methodology for more details and flags in data tables.
This figure is for course starts. Individual pupils may undertake more than one course.
For starts by pupils on academic mentor courses, we do not hold complete data. We have estimated the number of starts using the data we do hold.
Figures may not always sum to totals exactly, due to rounding.
When using this data, please see our data tables (by clicking ‘Explore Data’) for the Educational Setting Status Form response rate associated with school led tutoring statistics and the flags on the number of responses and the response rate.
Not all schools were eligible for academic mentors in 2020/21. Not all schools are eligible for academic mentors or school led tutoring in 2021/22.

The Department for Education or Randstad do not hold data on the location of tutoring for some pupil starts on tuition partner courses in 2021/22. No adjustment of school participation in the tuition partner pillar has been made to account for this.
