- STEM Subjects are Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Mathematics and Physics.
- EEA national relates to individuals from within the European Union, European Economic Area or those included in the single market - this includes Swiss nationality. The UK is not included in these figures.
- Others includes media and communication studies, social studies, citizenship and psychology.
- Percentages have been rounded and therefore may not sum to 100%.
- Business studies: includes economics
- Design & Technology: includes food technology and engineering.
- The Teacher Workforce Model (TWM) is used by DfE to set postgraduate ITT targets https://explore-education-statistics.service.gov.uk/find-statistics/postgraduate-initial-teacher-training-targets/2024-25.
- Physical Education: includes dance.
- Subject: The subject given here is ITT subject and may not be the same as the subject of the undergraduate degree held.
- Figures for 2024/25 are provisional and are subject to change. Figures for 2023/24 and all previous years have been revised.
- Troops to Teachers are excluded from all figures prior to 2021/22.
- Sex other: Sex was previously reported as gender. This has been updated as it was previously mislabelled. From 2021/22, trainees who chose not to provide data on sex have been included in an 'unknown' category. Prior to this they were included in 'other'.
- Data from 2021/22 does not contain forecast trainees, this is due to a change in data collection methodology.
- Undergraduate: The majority of undergraduate provision is offered by higher education institutions.
- Proportions exclude trainees where information was not supplied, or where characteristics/information were reported as ‘unknown’.
- Data was extracted on 19 November 2024.
- Numbers for entrants are slightly decreased for 2024/25. This is because records for approximately 100 trainees from a provider were not submitted in time for inclusion in these statistics. We intend to update the figures to include these trainees in an amendment in early 2025.
