Footnotes

  1. STEM Subjects are Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Mathematics and Physics.
  2. EEA national relates to individuals from within the European Union, European Economic Area or those included in the single market - this includes Swiss nationality. The UK is not included in these figures.
  3. Others includes media and communication studies, social studies, citizenship and psychology.
  4. Percentages have been rounded and therefore may not sum to 100%
  5. Business studies: includes economics
  6. Design & Technology: includes food technology and engineering.
  7. Physical Education: includes dance.
  8. Data was extracted on 10 November 2025
  9. Subject: The subject given here is ITT subject and may not be the same as the subject of the undergraduate degree held.
  10. Figures for 2025/26 are provisional and are subject to change. Figures for 2024/25 and all previous years have been revised.
  11. Troops to Teachers are excluded from all figures prior to 2021/22.
  12. Sex other: Sex was previously reported as gender. This has been updated as it was previously mislabelled. From 2021/22, trainees who chose not to provide data on sex have been included in an 'unknown' category. Prior to this they were included in 'other'.
  13. Data from 2021/22 does not contain forecast trainees, this is due to a change in data collection methodology.
  14. Undergraduate: The majority of undergraduate provision is offered by higher education institutions.
  15. Proportions exclude trainees where information was not supplied, or where characteristics/information were reported as ‘unknown’.
  16. Previously excluded self-funded trainees are now included in trainee numbers from 2019/20 academic year onwards. Please see methodology for more details.
