Footnotes

  1. Volumes are rounded to the nearest 10 and 'low' indicates a base value of fewer than 5. Where data shows 'x' this indicates data is unavailable, 'z' indicates data is not applicable, and 'c' indicates data is suppressed.
  2. Total starts are the count of apprenticeships started at any point during the stated academic period. Learners starting more than one Apprenticeship will appear more than once.
  3. Total achievements are the count of Apprenticeships achieved at any point during the stated academic period. Learners achieving more than one Apprenticeship will appear more than once.
  4. Level 6 plus represents degree-level apprenticeships (apprenticeships at level 6 and level 7). Degree level apprenticeships may or may not have a mandatory degree component.
  5. Mandatory degree refers to apprenticeship standards on the 'Search the Apprenticeship Standards' website with a status of ‘Integrated' or ‘Non-Integrated' Degree, plus any frameworks where degrees are mandatory for completion.
  6. Some apprentices may be on an apprenticeship that doesn’t mandate a degree, but where the apprentice may achieve a degree as part of their employer’s particular apprenticeship programme.
  7. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects include those in the Construction, Planning and the Built Environment, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies, Information and Communication Technology, and Science and Mathematics sector subject areas.
  8. There are a small number of starts on frameworks that have been reported in 2021/22 and 2022/23. All remaining apprenticeship frameworks were withdrawn to new learners on 31 July 2020. Learners who started on frameworks are where it has been agreed a learner can return to a previous framework they have been on after an extensive break.
