Footnotes
- Age is based on age as at 31 August of the academic year.
- Ages are based upon the age of the learner on 31 August of that particular academic year. Figures from 2016/17 onwards include a small number of learners aged 18 at the start of the academic year but aged 19 at the start of the aim in the 19-24 category. Similarly for previous years, a small number of learners aged 23 at the start of the academic year but aged 24 at the start of the aim are included in the 24 to 30 category.
- Essential skills total includes English, maths, and ESOL, but excludes digital, unless otherwise specified.
- Population data has been extracted from <a href="https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/query/construct/summary.asp?mode=construct&version=0&dataset=2002">Nomis - Official Census and Labour Market Statistics</a>. Population estimates for all years have been rebased to align with the Census 2021 results. Previously published rates per 100,000 have been updated in line with these new estimates. A few local authority districts have missing data, where this is the case the previous estimates have been used.
- The no level assigned category includes a small number of cases which appear to be anomalies in the system.
- Total participation is the count of learners that were funded by the Adult Education Budget that participated at any point during the stated academic period. Learners undertaking more than one course will appear only once in the grand total.
- Volumes are rounded to the nearest 10 and 'low' indicates a base value of fewer than 5. Where data shows 'x' this indicates data is unavailable, 'z' indicates data is not applicable, and 'c' indicates data is suppressed.
- Figures for 2023/24 are provisional and cover the first three quarters (Aug 2023 to Apr 2024). All other years are final, full-year figures.
