Footnotes

  1. This table shows the number of children with SEND as a proportion of the total number of children registered with providers.  Figures cannot be compared with those published in previous years which showed this number as a proportion of the total number of registered childcare places that providers had.
  2. Prior to 2025, school-based providers were asked "how many children in your nursery have SEND".  Some, however, appeared to have been including children registered in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 (rather than just children attending nursery provision) in their figures. Therefore, in the 2025 survey, the wording of this question was changed, to ask school-based providers how many under school-aged children registered with their nursery provision had SEND.  This may explain why a smaller proportion of children registered with school-based providers have SEND in 2025 than in 2024
