  2. Others includes media and communication studies, social studies, citizenship and psychology.
  3. Percentages have been rounded and therefore may not sum to 100%
  4. Business studies: includes economics
  5. Design & Technology: includes food technology and engineering.
  6. Physical Education: includes dance.
  7. The Teacher Workforce Model (TWM) is used by DfE to set postgraduate ITT targets https://explore-education-statistics.service.gov.uk/find-statistics/postgraduate-initial-teacher-training-targets/2025-26.
  8. Data was extracted on 10 November 2025
  9. Subject: The subject given here is ITT subject and may not be the same as the subject of the undergraduate degree held.
  10. Figures for 2025/26 are provisional and are subject to change. Figures for 2024/25 and all previous years have been revised.
  11. Troops to Teachers are excluded from all figures prior to 2021/22.
  12. Data from 2021/22 does not contain forecast trainees, this is due to a change in data collection methodology.
  13. Proportions exclude trainees where information was not supplied, or where characteristics/information were reported as ‘unknown’.
  14. Self-funded trainees are included in recruitment targets and postgraduates in scope of targets from academic year 2025/26. For 2019/20 to 2024/25, recruitment targets and postgraduates in scope of targets do not include self-funded trainees. Self-funded trainees are included in postgraduate totals for all years. Percentage of recruitment target met refers to postgraduates in scope of target for all years. For more details see methodology.
