  1. STEM Subjects are Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Mathematics and Physics.
  2. Others includes media and communication studies, social studies, citizenship and psychology.
  3. Percentages have been rounded and therefore may not sum to 100%
  4. Business studies: includes economics
  5. Design & Technology: includes food technology and engineering.
  6. Physical Education: includes dance.
  7. Data was extracted on 10 November 2025
  8. Subject: The subject given here is ITT subject and may not be the same as the subject of the undergraduate degree held.
  9. Figures for 2025/26 are provisional and are subject to change. Figures for 2024/25 and all previous years have been revised.
  10. Troops to Teachers are excluded from all figures prior to 2021/22.
  11. Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship: The postgraduate teaching apprenticeship (PGTA) was introduced in 2018/19.
  12. The 2024/25 revised and 2025/26 provisional data does not contain forecast trainees, this is due to a change in data collection methodology.
  13. Degree Class: 2:1 includes undivided 2nd.
  14. Total with known degree: excludes trainees whose degree classes are unknown, therefore please consider the impact of the number of unknowns when considering data trends.
  15. Other degree class: includes international degrees which have different grading classes, degree classes below 2:2, and other. It excludes trainees whose degrees classed as not known or not applicable.
  16. Schools direct salaried: includes salaried programmes i.e. Future Teaching Scholars Programme
  17. Previously excluded self-funded trainees are now included in trainee numbers from 2019/20 academic year onwards. Please see methodology for more details.
